What do we mean when we talk about healthy brain aging and normal mental function?

Aging is a natural part of our life cycle and, just like the rest of our bodies, our brains change as we age. But no one wants to age prematurely or lose cognitive function.

For many people, getting older means dealing with mild memory loss and impaired cognition. Indeed, millions of people around the world have age-related cognitive impairment, and that number is increasing rapidly.

For many others, the progressive decline in their cognitive function results in dementia (in other words, a decline in mental function beyond what might be expected from normal aging). The most common cause of dementia is Alzheimer’s disease, which currently afflicts around 25 million people worldwide.

The statistics regarding cognitive decline in humans are startling. It is estimated that more than 10% of people over 65 have a condition called Mild Cognitive Impairment (MCI), a condition commonly considered the first stage of mental decline. People with MCI are four times more likely to develop Alzheimer’s disease than those without. Alzheimer’s, meanwhile, affects around 3% of people at age 65, after which the probability of getting the disease doubles every five years. By age 85, close to 50% of people will have Alzheimer’s or some other form of dementia.

Alzheimer’s is a degenerative and ultimately terminal disease which destroys brain cells. Abnormal structures called amyloid plaques are the prime suspects in damaging and killing nerve cells.

For many years, doctors and health practitioners have suggested various lifestyle changes as a way of warding off the danger of dementia. These have included a diet rich in oily fish and vegetables, regular exercise, and mental stimulation such as playing chess or mind and memory games. However, more reliable and effective treatments have long been necessary.

Over recent years, most attempts at pharmaceutical intervention have targeted the mild to moderate stages of Alzheimer’s disease, but a product that can treat people with MCI or delay their progression into this phase is crucial for the general wellbeing of the elderly population.

Research conducted on the active ingredient in Inteligen Advanced Brain Formula has shown that it displays numerous mechanisms that support healthy brain aging and protect the brain against many free radicals. Free radical damage can cause the brain to age more rapidly, inducing memory loss and affecting cognitive function.

The active ingredient in Inteligen (known as Colostrinin) appears to act in at least two ways: by reducing oxidative stress and inhibiting beta amyloid-induced apoptosis. Oxidative stress is a term used for the build-up of harmful oxidising materials as a result of abnormal cell metabolism, which leads to impairment of function. It is a key feature in the development of all neurodegenerative diseases, including Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s. Apoptosis is the mechanism of cell death in normal cells, but premature or abnormal apoptosis can also be started by many disease processes, for example the build-up of beta amyloid in the brain.

In laboratory tests, Inteligen Advanced Brain Formula has been shown to reduce the aggregation and toxicity of beta amyloid, the accumulation of which is central to the pathogenesis of Alzheimer’s disease. In animal and cell research, the active ingredient in Inteligen has also provided antioxidant activity and increased average lifespan.

The benefits of Inteligen’s proline-rich polypeptide complex in terms of healthy brain aging have been confirmed in numerous clinical trials. Inteligen’s active ingredient was originally identified by scientists working in Poland, where early clinical studies had indicated a significant potential benefit to Alzheimer’s disease sufferers. A major placebo-controlled clinical trial on Alzheimer’s sufferers in Poland, which completed in 2002, showed impressive results, with around 40% of patients achieving stabilization or improvement in their disease condition after 15 weeks of treatment, and efficacy being demonstrated in both mild and moderate symptom groups. No serious adverse effects or other safety concerns were observed. Even after 30 weeks of treatment, 33% of patients exhibited stabilization or improvement.

Maintaining one’s normal mental function by promoting healthy brain aging is increasingly being recognized as essential if people want to live full lives and enjoy their later years. Medical science has made many advances in recent decades, and our overall knowledge of the aging process of the human brain has increased substantially. Inteligen is the first step towards supporting your brain and helping it support you.

Inteligen should not be used by children or women who are pregnant or nursing, as it has not been tested in these individuals. Anyone with suppressed immune function or taking immunomodulating agents should consult their doctor before using Inteligen. You should always follow dosing instructions as outlined on the label.
